NKULULEKO "FLABBA” HABEDI’S MEMORIAL.

Sipho Ramaru

“er ke Flabba”, Nkuli’s famous line before he jumps on a beat!!!

“The name Skwatta Kamp, is actually a name that was inspired by Flabba when we were starting out”_Peter Lynch, Skwatta Kamp day one manager.

Lynch who was the host at the service, gave us a brief history of how he got to manage Skwatta Kamp and shared some of his days with them.

Flabba has always been that rapper who came with the most creative lines and didn’t even have to think long and hard to come with such dope rhymes.

I have to say…it was rather a service filled with a lot of mixed emotions. One moment you’d want to cry, the next, you are bumping to Flabba’s joints and laughing over his crazy lyrics. The hommie was working on a few projects before his passing, and he still hasn’t lost his touch. One of the new singles he has is ‘Do Like I Do’ and track’s remix, which is originally, Kwesta’s song. The sad part of this dope joint is that, yesterday, Tuesday, was supposed to be the shooting of the track’s remix video.

The first acts on stage was Nothende who recited a piece to pay her last respects to Lepara la rap, and then Max-hoba, gave an emotional piece ‘Joko ya hao’. Kwesta sanctified the stage with his performance of the ‘still’ new single ‘Do Like I Do’ and the crowd went in to rap Flabba’s verse. I repeat, Nkuli was a dope and realest rapper in the game!

After Kwesta’s performance, JR came through and said a few words and also mentioned that he and Nkuli were in talks about signing Nkuli to his Feel Good Music label, and as expected, Nkuli’s response to that was: “Batho batlo reng ke sign’a ke ntwana” meaning what will people say when I sign to a kid. After his short speech, JR gave a killer performance and got the crowd going buck wild when he performed his new single with Flabba which is part of the projects that were building up to Flabba’s second solo album that was set to release this year.

The Skwatta Kamp crew were called on stage to share their stories and memories with Flabba who was the craziest and funniest in the squad. “When Skwatta Kamp started out, it was about 12 of us, and people started living nje, Mischief was a Skwatta Kamp member for like a week” said Sugasmakx. The whole crew met through Nish who’s also part of the family.

Bozza came and got the crowd cracking with laughter from the memories he shared with Flabba. “In the past three weeks, Flabba and I spoke more often and he told me how he want his kids to be taken care of” Slikour said. “Lesego, daddy loves you and want you and your brother to be alright” he further went on, “Flabba never had to work hard, but he always had fresh material”. Slikour says Flabba is that one rapper that other artists didn’t have to give advice on how to execute his rhymes, you just had to let him do him.

“We are not here to mourn him, but we are to celebrate his life”_KwestaDakar.

Nkuli’s friends and celebrities came in numbers to support the Habedi family. Towards the end of the service, the DJ was playing Flabba’s music and got everyone jamming to the joints…It was a proper yet emotional service!

That’s basically it”, Flabba’s last words from an interview.
