GODLY. . .GODLY. . .RUN JOZI!!!

Sipho Ramaru

"do you want progress? or you want Rolex?"

Started from the bottom, was rolling around in that Toyota bakkie/ The summer is ours, I’m hungry for power, Gaddafi Gaddafi!”, dope rapper with a kingpin mind set of just going out there and getting it!

Two words that best describe AKA in support of his personality for me would have to be: CONFIDENT and ARROGANT. Which to a certain scope, women tend to find that kind of attitude striking in a guy. . .
Nkosi sikelela. . .Thina, thina namaGange. . .Godly, Godly, Run Jozi
Dissimilar to other artists who are still on the come up, AKA’s music is available on iTunes, which means there’s limits to free downloads on his composition!!! Run Jozi got twitter bug wild after being released/leaked on platforms that is available for download on.
Coming along with the Teargas rapper KO on the project, the dudes straight murked it. In my personal judgment, KO killed AKA in this track; “My flow is so harzadous/ mfanakithi, can’t nobody handle this/ I annihilated all my competition so there’s no further challenges”, first two bars and you can already feel the weight of the entire verse son!
Playing around with the beat he appears along with a technique in his flow and he comes back and say; “Ng’zokubamba ngo-left, ngik’bambe ngo-right/ mina kleva I’ll hurt you/ we outchea living that Eskom life, Yeah we in the power circle/ See all I ever wanted was a peace of mind to speak my mind the streets are mine”. . .Tell  me that’s not sick!?!? *giggles* it’s actually my first time hearing KO spitting this sick!
Then uAKA abuye futhi athi; “I’m something like Haile Selassie, Beautiful women and Jah seed/ God speed to my competition/ f*** whatever your palm reads, I’m on the mission”, this reminds me of Ali Bomaye (which for the first time I hear Titty-boy kill a song) when 2Chainz and Ross killed the jam, Game refused to give in, he still came back mean murking it!!! I think as I’m going with this review while listening to the track, more and more I learn how dope the joint really is!
That electric guitar kind of effect in the background, on Point! The beat, on Point! Lyrics, on Point! Performance, on Point! Overall. . .The track isss GODLY!!! But do they really Run Jozi???

BEEF SPARKLE IN THE MMG CAMP

Picture taken from The Source
Sipho Ramaru

BEEF!!! sparked yesterday on twitter between Maybach Music Group label mates, Meek Mill and Wale. This comes after Meek called out Wale on twitter!!
Tweeting some stuff about disloyal niggaz who pretend to have his back while knowing they not down with him and calling Olubowale a cornball hahahaha!!!
Wale just ain’t gone tweet a thing about my album…. He’s been hating on me long time now …don’t even text me cornball! #UNOTMMG

Okay maybe the fact that your homeboy didn’t promote or publish anything about your upcoming project might be a bit of a situation but taking it to twitter instead of confronting him and talk about it like MEN and settling it was a weak a** move…(that’s what I think).
I don’t really want no suckas in arm reach of me…. My hands might be lose control! That’s how im rocking
Just early last year I uploaded an article about the success of the Group the previous year and how they took over the game with Rick Ross’ verse on Diced Pineapples; “Double M and them other niggaz fell off/ baby girl I just wanna see you well-off”. The MMG rappers had a great year back in 2012 after the release of Self-Made Vol. 2, Dope Mixtape indeed.
Wale replied on his instigram acc.:

Few weeks ago. (7w) I posted this .but ok. Moving along . My avi always changed when it’s THAT time .. Ok that’s not enough y’all see “razor ramon” post on his no. but I don’t care.. I wrote a long ass post day before his single dropped .. Mariah recorded dropped nobody said a word I didn’t care .. I still don’t… I carry myself with confidence and humility ., I always try to have a lighter side to MMG.. Cuz I understand I don’t “fit the mold” so if I’m tryna spruce an interview up to show that we not tryn be “serious tough guys” on the red carpet Or try to be a bit more engaging to broaden our audience forgive me .
I never wanted anybody to think that we take ourselves THAT serious. (Were rappers) I don’t need to take anybody shine.. Or hate on anybody . I walk in a completely different world .. Where I look for slp jeans and Shanghai drunks online and know what “kayfabe” means. I check nbadraft.net daily . I’m on whatculture allll day I enjoy shyt like that. I play fuckin Zelda and f*** wit b****s who teach yoga and paint… I get it . I’m different . I always embrace that shyt..
I encourage y’all to embrace what y’all like or the person y’all wanna be.. I text niggas happy Father’s Day and get no reply .. I laugh it off .. I laugh at how I write songs about “chain music’ and y’all get lost or “600benzz” I like to have fun with our culture. Because I believe I add THAT to a “gangster rap” faction. I made my opportunity work for me that way. I write poems . I watch wwe . I collect kicks. I’m sensitive ok. Maybe bipolar. But one thing I’m not is a hater..
I see Daquan jokes all day yesterday and patted myself on the back that I’m regarded as the aforementioned adjectives and not “Daquan”. I’m me and I’ll be me and do this shyt wit my “dew” till I don’t wanna do it. I encourage you to wake up soon as you find time. This was a post about #nothing
This one has to be one of the most interesting beef in hip hop, coming from dudes signed under the same record label!!! It all started because Wale is one of the few people from the Untouchable Maybach Empire who never tweeted nor wrote about Meek Mill’s upcoming album on his social networks, Dreams Worth More Than Money which is set to drop September 9. . .Rick Ross hasn’t yet commented or said anything on the matter!!!
Fighting is bad boys and girls. . .But its good for hip hop!!!

PHUMAKIM!!!
"Abo ringa more Phumakim, Phumakim!! Mr know-it-all Phumakim, Phumakim!! All you thirsty girls Phumakim, Phumakim"

Sipho Ramaru

Cassper Nyovest has undoubtedly announced his arrival and making it impossible for fellas to ignore his presence!!!

The newly leaked single from his yet to be released debut album “PHUMAKIN”, has been causing waves on social networks since last Thursday.

Captivating hook! First rate beat! Production on point! It is without uncertainty that Phumakim is a nice joint with pertinent libretto based on his life as a celeb; “Life has been a bliss since the mainstream caught on”. Now pragmatically speaking, Cassper Nyovest is not your hard hitting punch-line and mean lyrics spitting kind of a rapper. . .He is your entertainer type, playing around with lyrics and swinging catchy hooks, which makes the song more of a club banger.
Hehehe my favorite line has to be; “I told my story. . .and made a fortune/ AKA’s favorite rapper, I guess I made it on the Forbes list”, which makes me be in awe what was AKA’s reaction after hearing this.
The thing is, some of the lyrics on the joint are your typical “she wasn’t interested in me before I became famous and now she’s excited to be in my presence AND I now mess with a certain type of girls because I am celebrity” type of lyrics, we’ve heard this a million times already! And the Auto-tune??? Jay-Z has said enough on this subject matter on D.O.A, so I’m just gonna leave it at that!!!
This track had an amazing response from Cassper’s fans on the day of its release/leak. PHUMAKIM almost reached 200 000 downloads, (now if it was album sales it would make him the first and only rapper to come out of SA with such sales). . .Overall, PHUMAKIM is a proper joint and has more people giving it props than those hating on it!!! So I guess Cassper Nyovest must be doing alright. . .

OPEN LETTER TO RAPPER: AKA

Sipho Ramaru

Letter from: Anonymous

Dear AKA

This letter to me is pointless, it
won't pay my bills, it won't get me
Boity and won't improve Zuma's
English but as a fan of hip hop I
believe I should vent.

I have witnessed different eras of
South African hip hop, from
H20(amanzimtoti), the reign of
Skwata Kamp, the Reason from
Optical Illusion, the skinny and
ghetto Prokid, the rule of
Motswako, the snorbish but rather
appealing Jozi crew and the more
commercialized and Kwaito
sounding hip hop era that we are
in.

In all these years I've never
came across a rapper that is as
irritating as you, as cocky as you,
and most of all, as bored as you.
I won't take anything away from
you, you work really hard, and your
music has mass appeal but you're
wrong.

South African hip hop isn't
at it's current state because of your
efforts, that's Industry blasphemy,
and that's highly disrespectful to
other artists who are pulling their
weight, AKeezus huh? That's like
saying South Africa is at it's current
state because of Zuma, there were
a series of events, activists and
rappers before you, but then again
who knows, the way you're acting
one who'd swear that you are
Zuma's bastard.

You forget that you are in South
Africa, we don't have a broad hip
hop market, not everyone has an
iPhone or a computer to buy your
album on iTunes, and you know
well that people don't buy CDs
anymore, your last album sold
6000 copies I thought you would've
at least learnt your lesson. With that
said, you need to humble yourself,
not beg, but be likable, or you'll be
the next L-Tido.

Right now you
making good music but you
making it hard for a regular joe like
me to like you enough to support
you. Humble yourself or uzolamba
clever!!!

On Twitter, you exhaust a lot of
people, are you an orphan? Why
do you like attention so much? It's
not that people are hating on you,
you are the one thats luring all that
hate towards yourself. You have a
few awards now you think you're
the Kanye West of South Africa, that
time your gf is a dark skinned dj
and none of your singles and
albums sold gold(at least). Hhayi
brika bhova!!!

And lastly, learn from the greats,
KO, Khuli, HHP, they've been in the
game longer than you and their
albums did well and they are still
relevant. Yeah, every rapper has an
ego, when you're good you're
good, but you're overly conceited
for nothing, you haven't achieved
that much in the business.

Here's a thing about fame, it's comes and
goes quick, so don't make us be
happy when your demise arrives,
we want to miss you one day when
you have faded, right now? We
can't wait to see your downfall.

Yours truly

Tha GODFATHER VS SCARFACE

Sipho Ramaru

Antonio Montana, and you? What do you call yourself?

Talking about a legendary actor to walk this earth, first name that hits me up has to be Al Pacino aka “Say hello to my little my friend”, which is the most famous movie quote of all time. I’ve watched Scarface over a million times and I still watch it every now and then. Scarface along with Tha Godfather has to be the best Mafia Movies I’ve ever seen and ever produced (My Opinion).

Michael Corleone, the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone who took over his dad’s legacy after he passed and later became the Don, was recognized as the 11th most iconic villain in film history by the American Film Institute. Leaving the US Marine to become the Operational Head of the family business while he wanted nothing to do with criminal activities, Mickey chose loyalty over his preferences because Family is Family and it always comes first. He took over the legacy to become the biggest and well known Mafia boss in the business.

My father made him an offer he couldn’t refuse

Immaculately executing his 1970’s – 1990’s movie roles on Tha Godfather and Scarface, the whole Mafia Movie genre took an in one piece new turn. Scarface being all about a fellow who came as of nothing and making his line of attack to the top and edifying his own drug empire with a mind-set of a sovereign. Scarface was the first film in which the expletive F word is used 226 times in total; the motion picture is just too profound!!!

Tony Montana: Look Frank, time has come. We gotta expand. . .the whole operation, distribution

we gotta set our own mark and enforce it. . .We gotta think big now

I remember watching Scarface for the first time/ look at that big house, that Porsche paid for by crime” a line from Nasier Jones on Triple Beam Dreams where he is featured by Rick Ross.

Up to this day, Al Pacino continues to be the most influential icon with a lot of mainstream hip hop cats looking up to his fictional character in Scarface and Tha Godfather. He inspired a lot of people in the movie industry and also happened to be the legendary rapper, Tupac’s idol. Even during the epoch of the high profile feud with Jay-Z, Nas on his track “Last Real Nigga Alive” from his album God’s Son, Escobar compared himself to Tony Montana and Jay-Z to Manny, respectively from Scarface.

TSHOLOFELO
Picture Taken From Cassper's Twitter Account

Sipho Ramaru

"Hala at a Pantsula babe"

2014 is indeed Cassper Nyovest’s year, gaining more and more followers daily, the young rapper from Maftown still manages to keep his cool and remain humble.

It is also reported that Cassper is the only SA rapper to be followed by the American rapper, Wiz Khalifa on twitter! Nyovest uploaded a picture of himself with Amber Rose’s baby daddy and love on his facebook fan page with the caption: ‘Wiz Khalifa said I’m now taylor Gang”.

The motswako lyricist has undoubtedly “jacked the game like keith murray”. . .Gaining recognition after being featured on HHP’s ‘wamo tseba mtho”, Nyovest never looked back and just went hard at it, pushing himself as a brand more than anything.
After dropping out of high school, Refiloe Phoolo (real name) moved to Joziburg to pursue his dream of being a rapper and an entertainer; “I told my parents that I’d rather chase my dream, which I believe id going to work out, rather than keeping it safe and regret my whole life”. Could this be another ‘from rags to riches typa story’?, well however you want to look at it, the dude made it and is definitely making his way to the riches.
Things have been going well for the young and talented fella, especially after the release of ‘Gusheshe’, the first official single from his yet to be released debut album, Tsholofelo.
The story behind his debut album and the title of the project is indeed a deep and touching one. Broke and still chasing the dream, he needed some financial assistance, and his little sister which her name is Tsholofelo, gave him her pocket to push and pursue the dream…Now that’s what I call sisterly love right there!!! To show appreciation, Nyovest titled his album after his sister as a dedication and token of admiration.
After his breakthrough, Cassper Nyovest founded his own record label called Press Play Music and has worked with household names like Hip Hop Pantsula, Ifani and Uhuru to mention a few. Nyovest scooped 4 awards from different categories at the SA Hip Hop Awards; “NEVER LOST AN AWARD THAT I WAS NOMINATED FOR”.
If you still hating on this hommie then you need prayers!!! Big Shout Out to Cassper Nyovest, ntwana Mahikeng. . .Continue growing SA’s urban culture and keep killing them. Hip Hop Split wishes you well in your career, you deserve all the success you getting and MORE!!!
ALBUM DROPS: 31st July 2014
